About baroque
De barok is een westerse stijl van architectuur, muziek, dans, schilderkunst, beeldhouwkunst, poëzie en andere kunsten die bloeide van het begin van de 17e eeuw tot de jaren 1750. Het volgde op de renaissancekunst en het maniërisme en ging vooraf aan de rococo- en neoklassieke stijlen. De barok werd aangemoedigd door de katholieke kerk als tegenwicht voor de eenvoud en soberheid van de protestantse architectuur, kunst en muziek, hoewel er ook in delen van Europa lutherse barokkunst ontstond.
